Thai Dara in Gilmore, New Menu Picks

One of the things I love about coupon sites is that I get to try out new food at an old favorite restaurant. My eyes widened when I saw Thai Dara. No doubt about it, one coupon was sold in Manila.

I didn't know why. I was just in the mood for a breakthrough when it comes to curry. I thought, "What if I didn't have to go all the way to Som's in Makati to have Red Beef Curry?" Then, there it was, at the back of the new Thai Dara menu, it said Panang Curry Beef Tendered Beef in rich red curry sauce. Spicy. with a star. I thought it meant House Specialty in my excitement haha. Surely, don't underestimate this simple plate of Curry Beef. The strong flavor of one small piece will explode in your mouth. It was either you eat the beef or the sauce, not the two together if your tolerance for spicy is low.

We paired it with a much bigger plate of Bagoong Rice, complete with the sweet pork, egg, cucumber and green mango strips. I highly recommend mixing everything together with the (patis) fish sauce and the kalamansi. This dish can actually be a meal for 2 already and balanced out the spiciness of the Panang Beef Curry greatly. Good thing we didn't order one more dish for this lunch.

Of course, the Thai Iced Tea is always a favorite to go with any Thai Dara dish, most especially the ones with the stars. *Wink!

Just be reminded that it comes first and it's addicting so you might already be halfway through your Thai Iced Tea when the food is served.

J and I love this Thai Dara corner. Now the walls of this small restaurant are adorned with pictures of actual celebrities who have eaten here instead of just magazine cutouts of Thai personalities. Other things remain constant like the awesome Thai food and the Thai karaoke music that plays in the background.

Thai Dara has been featured in this blog more than once. It is included in my Guiltless Getaways picks of restaurants in Manila. So far, it's still my first choice whenever I crave for Thai food in Manila and the list of my favorite Thai Dara dishes increases with every visit.

Thai Owner Chef James is also taking Pinoys to private Bangkok food trips now. The Bankok Food Trip tour fee of P18K includes a 3N accommodation, transportation and 7 meals at 7 different restaurants personally picked by Chef James so stay tuned for Bangkok Food Trip 3!
